Sangria Pitchers
Sangria pitchers are often made of pottery, but
the elegant ingredients that make up a traditional sangria can
best be appreciated in fine crystal.
Sangria (Spanish for "bloody") is a wine punch typical
of Spain. It normally consists of a light, dry, red wine, usually
Rioja, Tempranillo, or Grenache in Spain. Other reds that work
well include French wines such as Gamay or Beaujolais, and Italian
wines such as Grignolino, Bardolino, Dolcetto, Freisa, or Lambrusco.
Consider the ingredients and you're bound to choose crystal.
A well made sangria includes chopped or sliced fruit (often orange,
lemon, apple, peach, berries, pineapple; occasionally melon, grape,
or mango); a sweetener such as honey, sugar, simple syrup, orange
juice, and/or fruit nectar; a small amount of added brandy, triple
sec, or other spirits, ice and carbonated soda.
Lovely to look at in a crystal-clear pitcher . . . perfect for
warm afternoons on the terrace.
