Wine Decanters
Throughout the history of wine, decanters have played
a significant role in the serving of wine.
Wine decanters, ornate or simple, usually come with a stoppered
lid, having a tall, upright shape and the finest are made of lead
crystal, to allow observation of the process of decanting. Decanters
are also designed in various modernized shapes.
Fine wines are decanted to isolate the sediment, but the tradition
extends to unsedimented wines as well.
When you're sure of yourself and your choice of vintage, a decanter
is always appropriate.
Decanters are an elegant way to either pour or make wine available
at table. For large dinner-seatings, nothing takes the place of
a nearby decanter. Several are even more thoughtful.
If you need reasons beyond beauty, elegance and utility . . .
Another reason for decanting wine is to aerate it, or allow it
to "breathe". The decanter is meant to mimic the effects
of swirling the wine glass to stimulate the movement of molecules
in the wine to trigger the release of more aroma compounds.
